Wool Week 2013

17.10.2013

Back in May, we participated in Campaign for Wool's ‘Wool School 2013’ competition alongside twelve other retailers including the likes of Barbour, Margaret Howell and Pringle of Scotland, to offer fashion students across the country the opportunity to design a garment inspired by the knitwear traditions of The British Isles. Each retailer hand-picked a winning entry that would go into production, representing their brand and to be sold in their store or stockist. Out of thousands of entries, we chose Eliot Moran's unique and creative new take on the Bomber Jacket. Crafted from a black wool with knitted Breton sleeves, rib trims complete this stylish and practical outerwear piece. Now available to purchase at Harvey Nichols, 5% of all Wool School garment sales will go back into fashion education programmes across the UK.

During Wool Week, Campaign for Wool hosts a variety events and inspiring initiatives aimed at highlighting wool as a natural, renewable and biodegradable fibre. Read more about Campaign for Wool, Wool Week and how to get involved here.

London Fashion Week Amex Insiders

12.09.2013

This season we are proud to be collaborating with American Express, to design and produce a unique men’s and women’s outfit for the AMEX insiders. The insiders provide a bespoke concierge service to London Fashion Week attendees and are equipped to deal with any kind of request, from confirming show times to booking hotel and dinner reservations.

Previously the AMEX Insiders have been dressed by some of the most outstanding British design talent, including Jonathan Saunders, Roksanda Ilinic, and J.W. Anderson, so we are very flattered to have been asked to provide the looks for this season.

The male Insiders will be sporting garments from our SS14 ‘Sandstorm’ collection, whilst the female insiders will be dressed in pieces from the soon to be revealed SS14 ‘Mirage’ collection. All of the pieces capture the essence of the Christopher Raeburn aesthetic, bringing an elegant distinction and a relaxed approachability to the team.

Look out for Insiders at London Fashion Week sporting the electric blue lizard bag, the beautiful desert print panel dress and the classic Christopher Raeburn women’s parka and men’s bomber re-invented for SS14.

SS14 MIRAGE Cool Wool

11.09.2013

Following the success of the Cool Wool styles in our SS14 menswear collection ‘Sandstorm’, we are pleased and proud to announce that the SS14 womenswear collection ‘Mirage’ will mark a continuation of our partnership with Woolmark.

Once again we have worked closely with the team at Woolmark to recontextualise wool as a summer fabric. We have created stand out pieces blending the modernity and wearability for which Christopher Raeburn is renown with the unique properties and versatility of Cool Wool.

Cool Wool is a lightweight merino wool fabric with surprising breathability and a smooth soft handle; the fabrics offer functional luxury, and are a perfect addition to Christopher Raeburn spring/summer womenswear.

In the ‘Mirage’ collection you can expect to see 100% Cool Wool pieces sitting alongside hybrid garments that seamlessly blend Cool Wool with some of the Christopher Raeburn signature fabrics.

SS14 SANDSTORM Cool Wool

14.06.2013

We are proud to be partnered with Woolmark, utilising Cool Wool, a breathable lightweight Merino knit in our SS14 SANDSTORM menswear collection. Originally launched nearly 30 years ago, Woolmark, the global authority on wool, launched the Cool Wool program to change the preconception of wool as a heavy, thermal fabric.

We have created a series of hybrid garments that combine the innovative crease-free Merino with signature Christopher Raeburn layering, shapes and details. In line with our ethos of sustainability and functionality, the trans-seasonal wool is renewable and biodegradable.

We are looking forward to continuing to work with Cool Wool.

Rapha & Ræburn SS13

19.05.2013

Christopher Ræburn has teamed up with Rapha cycle-wear to produce a limited edition capsule collection with an innovative approach to city riding. Rapha is know for its emphasis on quality and functionality as well as outstanding design. Made in England, Rapha & Ræburn marks the latest collaboration for brothers Christopher and Graeme; a product designer at Rapha.

The project stemmed from a feature in 'O Magazine' on Christopher Ræburn's work that also touched on Graeme's role at Rapha, something which was picked up on by many, prompting discussion on working together. Rapha had been keen to explore local production and Christopher's expertise and experience within sustainable home production provided the perfect collaborator.

In conversation with Selectism, Graeme explains:

"It continues a tradition at Rapha of working with creative talent from outside the immediate field of cycling on collections for city-riding. Cycling in town involves a complex balance of so many of elements – fabric, fit, style, function – in some cases more so than the racing and training. By collaborating we can utilize other areas of expertise and create products that wouldn’t otherwise exist. Chris was influential in terms of style and local production, and Rapha was able to bring the technical and functional aspect."

The Spring Summer 2013 collection features a merino wool henley, technical Italian denim and the centrepiece of the line, a lightweight innovative windcheater. Crafted from durable wind and rain resistant re-appropriated military parachute canopies, the packable tailored jacket features reflective details throughout; including high-visibility seam strips and an oversized hand-screen printed dot print along the sleeves. With only 600 available, each windcheater, which is available in three colours, displays it's individual production number on the exterior label on the lower back.

This fascinating short film takes us to the Cooper & Stollbrand factory, one of the oldest outerwear manufactures in England, where the limited Rapha & Ræburn city riding windcheater is produced. Documenting the entire garment production process; from the unpacking and deconstruction of the parachute canopies, to the pattern cutting, reconstruction and final intricate details we gain valuable insight into the importance and quality of local production.
